At the heart of the project is the teaching exchange programme between the two partner universities. During their visiting period, the two lead professors taught within courses offered by the host institution, part of international and interdisciplinary programmes such as the Master in European History and the Master Approche Interdisciplinaire de l’Énergie et de la Soutenabilité. These courses addressed a range of issues in economic and business history from both a European and a global perspective. Doctoral candidates and researchers also contributed by delivering lectures and seminars.

The course examines the history of the European economy in a global context from the 19th century to the present day, with particular attention to the role of the State, institutions and international economic governance. The period from the post-World War II era onwards is analysed in light of European integration and globalisation, through case studies on national and supranational economic policies, responses to crises, and dynamics related to the Cold War, modernisation, development, colonisation and decolonisation.

The course provides the necessary tools to study the history of economic development from a comparative and long-term perspective. It is structured around a selection of key issues encompassing diverse themes: from exploring the historical roots of the notion of development and its establishment as an economic paradigm after the Second World War, to debates on the notion of resources and the analysis of energy issues. Particular attention is devoted to political and economic actors and powers, with a focus on the role of institutions in promoting economic development from a comparative perspective.
